- FRIENDLY... Satok assemblyman, Datuk Ibrahim Baki presented a donation to Shamsuddin Bueng, a victim of a house fire, together with Petra Jaya Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof when visiting a house fire victim in the village Segoleng, Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol, Kuching today.

KUCHING: The intention of returning home to retrieve items left behind turned into grief when a tenant of a double-storey house in Kampung Masjid, Jalan Ajibah Abol saw the house was razed to the ground on Sunday morning (Oct 23).

One of the tenants, Shamsuddin Bueng, 53, said at the time, he and his 6-year-old daughter Futri Sofia were out in Padang Pasir area.

“At around 9.05am, I went back home to pick up the items that were left behind. I was surprised to see that the house where we lived in was on fire.

“I was very scared to see the situation at that time…I turned to the public for help to call the fire department.

“However, the fire at that time was very difficult to control, causing our house and belongings to be destroyed,” he said when met by reporters on October 24.

Elaborating further, Shamsuddin informed that he was from Bandar Baru Samariang and had rented a room in the house for about two to three years.

“For now, I have built a small temporary hut in Padang Pasir area for shelter because there is no other choice.

“I am grateful for every help given, including from the wakil rakyat in this area who helped to ease our burdens.

“There is nothing I hope for, we just need support from the public and hope that they understand what we are going through right now,” he explained.

Earlier, a spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said firemen from Padungan and Batu Lintang stations were despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 9.10am.

All eleven residents, including children and elderly aged from two to 62 years old were reportedly not at home when the fire incident occurred.
