KUCHING: The 13th Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (Apoc 13) 2019 is one of the best interna- tional networks that conserve and preserve orchids.

Acting State Secretary and adviser of Apoc 13 2019, Datuk Jaul Samion, said the state gov- ernment has always wished that an event such as Apoc 13 could be held more often in the state as it is very good to create a positive interactive network of relationships with other countries.

“It is also good for information sharing between experts, commercial cultivation, conservation and other matters.

“It pays relevant attention to many important aspects of the beauty and conservation of orchids, and we are pleased to support such efforts,” he said during Apoc 13 2019 state dinner here last Wednesday.

He pointed out that other than being beautiful to behold, flowers can be used for many purposes including as medicines, decorations, food, and cosmetics. “Obviously, the selection of orchids from around the world in this event is entertaining and interesting for every

visitor,” he said.
He further explained that

many flower growers, experts and enthusiasts take advan- tage of the best opportunities

available in such events.
“It’s also about discuss- ing favourite topics and many researchers are trying to show- case their latest findings in the conference,” he said.

He hoped that Apoc 13 would raise relevant public awareness, including awareness of nature and wildlife.

“It will also encourage inter- est, love for flowers, and so on. I hope that all delegates and par- ticipants will create international cooperation and establish friend- ships in the orchid industry, not just enjoying the beauty of plants andorchidsintheexhibition,”he stressed.

Also held yesterday was a cer- emony for the presentation of prizes including two grand prizes for various categories.

The recipients in the ‘Best Hybrid of the Show’ category six was won by Orchidwood manaa. The ‘Best Species of the Show ‘ went to Chiew King Siong who took home RM2,500 and a plaque.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was represented during the dinner by Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who was accompanied by his wife. He also presented the prizes to both the winners.
