SIBU: Plans to redevelop the Bukit Assek area may draw a leaf from Singapore’s experience in its Ang Mo Kio area.
Its assemblyman Joseph Chieng said it would be a good reference for his constituency’s redevelopment plan which is now in its planning stage.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg recently visited the republic and Chieng was among his entourage
He said the Ang Mo Kio area was deemed suitable as the area was similar to Bukit Assek.
“The Ang Mo Kio in Singapore used to be a very low-lying area as well,” he said.
“So, we can also learn from them and they could be a good reference for our Bukit Assek redevelopment plan,” he said after the presentation of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) incentives to Catholic High School students here yesterday (July 18).
On updates to the Bukit Assek redevelopment plan, he said it was still in the planning stage.
“I believe our Premier will make some announcement in the near future, most probably during our Sarawak Day. Who knows? So that will be very good news to our Sibu people,” he added.
