SIBU: Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee’s speech on ‘Why Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) must win in Sibu?’ at Taman Selera Harmoni on yesterday night (Nov 11), attracted over 5,000 people.

GPS candidate for Sibu, Clarence Ting’s arrival at 8.40pm, was greeted by loud cheers and applause from the public.
Reminiscing when Sibu was heavily affected by Covid-19 during the Pasai Cluster, Dr Annuar said Ting was one of the individuals who had worked alongside him in fighting against the pandemic.

“Among the people who worked hard at that time was none other than our candidate. This clearly shows that tonight I am asking the Bumiputera community, especially Melanau, Iban, and Malay, to support me because the person I can work with the most for our future is brother Clarence Ting.

“I won (in the 12th state election) with a majority of more than 10,000 last year. This time, it is enough that the Sibu has been held by the opposition for 10 years.”

The Nangka assemblyman also emphasised that Sibu needs a strong team among its assemblymen and MPs to lead its development.

“Last election, I pleaded that the people of Sibu vote for GPS candidates and give me a comrade to work together for Sibu and you gave me three assemblymen – Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Dudong), Michael Tiang (Pelawan) and Joseph Chieng (Bukit Assek).

“This time around, I once again appeal to the people of Sibu to please complete the team by adding two more MPs, which is Clarence Ting for Sibu and Wong Ching Yong for Lanang seats,” he said.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development said by ensuring a Ting victory in Sibu, they will secure 1/3 allocation for each constituency’s development.

“There are three DUNs under Sibu, which is Nangka, Pelawan and Bawang Assan. With Ting winning the seat, I hope he can make sure that the allocation given by the government will be divided equally among this three constituencies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ting in his speech promised that he will work as hard as he can if he were elected Sibu MP just like how he was devoted to his Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman role.

“I will work the same way together (regardless of religion) with the Malay, Melanau, Iban or Chinese community. I hope we will remain united because in Sibu, we need more government funding

“So, I hope on Nov 19, you will vote for me,” he said.
