KUCHING: Commander of the Army Eastern Field Command Lt Gen Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad and his wife Datin Sdafra’ Ahmad were among 2,297 army personnel and their spouses who cast their ballots for the 15th general election (GE15) at the Muara Tuang Army Camp today (Nov 15).

Mardzuki said that 12,256 soldiers, civilian army personnel and their spouses cast their ballots at 16 polling streams.

“The early voters include those registered here but who have been deployed to Peninsular Malaysia. We have asked them to come back to vote today.

“Those who are stationed at the borders will be voting through postal votes and those who you see today are those who have been stationed on base,” he said.

He was speaking to the media after casting his ballot at the Muara Tuang Camp.

Mardzuki said 16 polling streams in 10 parliamentary constituencies throughout Sarawak were set up.

Mardzuki and his wife arrived at the polling stream at 8.50am to cast their ballots.

Also present to cast his ballot at the Muara Tuang Army camp was Maj-Gen Hassan Embong who expressed his pride for being able to vote, saying it is his responsibility as a citizen to vote.

He said the army has made it compulsory for all army personnel to cast their votes as it is their responsibility to the country.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Kota Samarahan candidate Datuk Rubiah Wang arrived at 9.10am to monitor the voting process.
