SIBU: Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee will assist traders at the Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2 Ramadan Bazaar who were affected by heavy rain and thunderstorms here yesterday.

The Nangka assemblyman said he and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth members will deliver a new canopy to the traders today (April 6).

“Sibu was hit by thunderstorms. Traders at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang Phase 2, especially those who use blue canopies, were affected and this involves 21 traders.

“So, I and the PBB youth will help them by preparing a new canopy each. Inshallah, by evening we will send new canopies to these affected traders, before they start their business for the day,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook account last night (April 5).

Annuar also said the canopies they have in possession might not be enough to cater to all the traders.

“We will have to find supplies at a hardware store to meet the numbers. PBB Teku and Bahagia Jaya Youth have agreed to help deliver the canopies tomorrow,” he said.

He also hoped that the traders affected will not be discouraged and would continue with business as usual.

“Thunderstorms have hit Sibu twice this year. At first, it wasn’t so bad. But this time it was really bad with a lot of fallen being uprooted.

“We only have two weeks left for Raya. So, I would like to give words of encouragement to traders to sustain their business to celebrate the coming syawal,” he said.
