KUCHING: The newly-registered CityOne Shop Owners’ Association (CSOA) has expressed optimism that with strategic approaches, CityOne Megamall will be able to weather any economic development coming its way.

“We strongly believe that with the right people in place and strategic directions set by the management, the mall will be able to get back on track despite the current uncertainty in the global economy,” said the association during its inaugural general meeting held at a hotel here on Sunday.

“This is in addition to several new established tenants coming to the mall this year.”

According to the association, some of the new tenants include Everrise, Seafood Shangri-La by Lok Thian Group, Place to Stay Hotel, Food Empire, Party World, JD Fine Food Du Men Yi and several government agencies.

Most if not all of these new tenants are expected to open for business in the second half of the year as some are already in the process of doing renovation work.

“Several other F&B outlets have also expressed their intention to come on board and were in the midst of negotiation with the mall’s management.

“We hope with all these new and potential entrants to the mall, the Management Corporation will be able to inject life back to the mall through various planned activities in conjunction with Gawai, Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and other festivities.”

CityOne Megamall at Jalan Song is touted as the largest commercial development in the state with a gross development value of over RM300 million.

It is full of potential due to its strategic location and is surrounded by an affluent neighbourhood with high purchasing power.

The association said that with its formation, members could now come together under one recognised body to look after their joint interest with the management of CityOne Megamall.

The objective of the association is to safeguard members’ common interests as well as to ensure their rights are protected under the existing governing laws pertaining to matters such as issuance of strata titles among others.

CSOA will also continue to highlight and raise members’ concerns on the well-being of the mall to the mall’s management for them to act upon and improve their performance.

It will conduct regular meetings and hold discussions with the mall’s management with the prime objective of reviving the mall and bringing in the much-needed crowd through various planned activities.

CSOA also appealed to all shop owners at CityOne to register as members.
