MIRI: The Miri Division Chinese Associations Sarawak hopes to raise RM200,000 to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontliners battling the Covid-19 outbreak in the state.

Its president Datuk David Goh Kian Ping said that the fundraising campaign was launched on April 1 by the association’s emergency disaster relief team to help frontliners do their work safely and confidently.

“Ever since the start of the campaign, we have been receiving inundated support from the public who offer to contribute,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said that the purchase of PPE for the frontliners is very important to protect medical workers when dealing with patients so that they don’t contract the virus themselves.

“We hope to raise RM200,000 in order to purchase the protective items including ventilator machines, surgical masks and gowns.

“All these items would be donated to Miri Hospital once we managed to raise the full amount,” he added.
