SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong said he has fulfilled his promise to form an association for e-hailing operators here.

“During last year’s election campaign, many e-hailing operators approached me about facing a lot of problems and I assured them that win or lose, I will help them to form an association,” Wong told a press conference here today (May 27).

According to Wong who is also the chairman of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch, some of them were troubled by the low fees they receive.

He said they also faced stiff competition from unlicensed e-hailing cars especially at the airport.
“The purpose of the e-hailing association is to fight for their interests and benefits .

“Through this association, they will have an united voice to fight for their interest as a e-hailing operators.”

“The association is open to all, he said, adding that there are about 300 licensed e-hailing vehicles in Sibu.
Also present was e-hailing association protem committee chairman Peter Goh and members.
