KUCHING: A 22-year-old man was arrested three hours later following a failed attempt to rob a convenience store, yesterday.

Padawan district police deputy chief DSP Mervin Lisa confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

According to him, the suspect was arrested at 9.20am in a house in Jalan Batu Kawa, following a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store in Kota Sentosa at 6.30am.

According to the report, the suspect who was armed with a cutting knife tried to rob the convenience store. One of the store’s workers then shouted, alerting that they were being robbed.

“The suspect then left the premises while wielding the cutting knife before getting into a white car.

“Due to the incident, one of the complainants suffered an injury on his right arm,” said Mervin.

Acting on the report, Mervin said his team managed to locate the suspect before making the arrest.

Police also found the cutting knife used by the suspect during the attempted robbery.

“Police found the knife which was thrown by the suspect in a drain in front of his house, and the suspect has admitted to trying to rob the convenience store and injured one victim,” he said, adding that the suspect was under the influence of drugs.

Police are investigating the case under Section 394 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery and voluntarily causing hurt.

The suspect was also remanded to assist the investigation.
