A powerful severe storm looms bringing heavy rain, hail, lightning and even threatening a tornado as cars and trucks pass by on the highway in Kansas.

KUCHING: The community is strongly advised to refrain from engaging in leisure activities at picnic areas and waterfalls in light of the impending northeast monsoon season.

Scheduled to commence on Saturday (Nov 11), this monsoon season is anticipated to persist until March of the following year.

Outgoing Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri emphasised that the police would collaborate with relevant agencies to enforce stringent control over leisure activities during the monsoon season.

“The public must refrain from partaking in leisure activities in picnic areas and waterfalls during the northeast monsoon.

“We will collaborate with relevant authorities, including the Forestry Department, to regulate activities such as climbing, camping, forest trekking, waterfall bathing, and recreational pursuits,” he said in a press conference at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here yesterday (Nov 9).

Additionally, the police will also engage with the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to place significant emphasis on controlling these activities, particularly during the rainy season.
