KUCHING: The youth volunteer group, Azam Young Souls (AYS), under Angkatan Zaman Mansang (Azam) Sarawak, is gearing up for an exciting array of future programmes and activities following the recent election of their committee for the term 2023-2024.

According to press release by Azam Sarawak, Asyraf Hardy, the former chairman of AYS in 2017, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, the results of today’s AYS committee election are remarkable, with key positions now held by young and newer members, bringing fresh ideas and contemporary thinking to the forefront.

“Asyraf, now a full official member of Azam, observed that this outcome reflects the willingness of AYS members to actively engage in a democratic process and express their desire for continuous growth and success within AYS.

“He noted that this aligns with AYS’ new tagline, ‘Connect. Impact. Respect,’ emphasising collaboration between existing and new volunteers,” Azam Sarawak said.

Azam added that newly elected chairman for AYS 2023/2024, Fadzim Aiman Jalani, congratulated the other elected members, emphasising that this marks a fresh beginning for the group.

“He expressed their eagerness to bring new perspectives, fresh ideas, and enhanced enthusiasm to their responsibilities. Fadzim, a university student, added that this is an exciting time for AYS to contribute to the community and volunteerism.”

Chairman of Azam Youth Development Committee, Mohd Ariff Irwani, emphasised the importance of having an organised structure with clearly defined roles for any organisation to move forward.

“He expressed his delight in AYS completing this process and looked forward to a fulfilling journey to make a difference in the community, particularly concerning Azam’s main strategic objectives,” Azam stated.

Since its inception in 2012, AYS has garnered significant interest among local development stakeholders through active participation in various youth activities under Azam Sarawak and contributions to activities by various agencies.

In addition to being invited as speakers and volunteers for various local youth-related events, AYS has volunteered for major events like the Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) and the Natural Resources and Environment Board of Sarawak (NREB) Youth Green X-Change (YGXC) program since 2015.
