KUCHING: A baby’s arm was amputated recently after seeking treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital, and her father wants to find out if negligence was involved.

The baby was born premature and injections were given to her. Her right arm turned septic and an amputation was done.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap said he was approached by the father, a clerk in a private firm, informing him that his baby daughter’s arm was recently amputated when she was receiving treatment.

The father sought Yap for assistance as he was disappointed and not satisfied with the explanation given by the hospital staff.

Yap empathised with the father and had on his behalf contacted the hospital.

As instructed by the hospital, Yap had formally written to the hospital to request for the detailed medical report of the baby regarding the diagnosis of her medical condition and the treatment given.

He assured the father that he would continue to follow up with hospital authorities and monitor the situation closely until the issue is settled.
