Shafizan Kepli

PUSA: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) youngest candidate Mohamad Shafizan Kepli in the 15th general election (GE15) is suddenly thrust into the limelight.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) candidate for Batang Lupar is gaining popular fast among the local community in his constituency – perhaps because of his active involvement in the party as well as in social activities.

Mohamad Shafizan, 37, replaces four-term MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, who has decided to step down after serving the constituency since 2004.

Many in the constituency is banking on him to bring changes if he wins on Nov 19.

His main focus is on balanced development in the three state constituencies under Batang Lupar, namely Sebuyau, Lingga and Beting Maro.

New Sarawak Tribune talks to some people in the constituency.

Shafizan is no stranger to the community and seeing his involvement in politics, it is certain that we need a leader like him to maintain and continue development. I believe the voters will give him full support and maintain continuity.

Our hope is that Shafizan will listen to the people, in addition to easily and loudly projecting the wishes and needs of the grassroots leaders to his superiors. We in Kampung Semarang also hope he will to our needs, especially in terms of economic development.

We in Maludam hope that when he is elected, he is easily approachable and available and ‘turun padang’ frequently. Like everyone else, I also hope for a leader who is concerned about his epople, speaks out for them, sincerely serves them and makes every effort to develop the area with a farsighted vision. And we hope he will be able to give us a better standard of living.

We as longhouse residents expect Shafizan to be diligent in going to the field to meet the people, and not showing favouritism in matters of religion and race. In addition, one must be wise, listen to the voice of the people and try to solve our problems and make fair decisions and to bring continuous development for the people’s benefit.
