BETONG: The Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) in Betong is advancing its mission to produce skilled individuals by introducing new fields of study before the year’s end, alongside the construction of new buildings to accommodate the growing student body and demand for classroom space.

Betong CENTEXS manager Andrew Emparan highlighted the encouraging response from the community since the establishment of CENTEXS in Betong five years ago. He announced plans to expand the fields of study offered by the institution.

“In the upcoming October intake, we plan to introduce new fields related to culinary arts, agriculture, and hospitality, complementing existing programs such as Wiremen Plus (Electrical), Fashion Technology Basic (Sewing), and Certificate in Smart Hydroponic Operation,” he disclosed.

“With these additions, Betong CENTEXS will offer over five fields, each intake accommodating over 100 trainees compared to the current 65,” he stated during the Aidilfitri and Pre-Gawai Dayak celebration at Betong CENTEXS, held in the Betong Division Resident’s Office hall yesterday evening.

The event was graced by CENTEXS liaison officer Dr Nor Ashikin Abdul Rahman, representing the Chief Executive Officer of CENTEXS.

Andrew expressed gratitude for the approval of a new three-story building by CENTEXS top management this year, to address the inadequate classroom space. The new building, situated in front of the existing campus, will feature six classrooms and a multipurpose hall.

“With the opening of these six classrooms, we aim to cater to the increasing needs of trainees,” he remarked optimistically.

Andrew reiterated CENTEXS’ commitment to providing skills training to the local community, particularly in Betong, Sri Aman, and Sarikei Divisions.

“We offer opportunities to individuals aged 18 and above. However, interest, commitment, and discipline are crucial factors we consider during the application process. This is an opportunity for them to equip themselves with industry-required skills.”

Over the five years of operation, Betong CENTEXS has benefitted over 2,000 individuals from surrounding communities through full-time courses, Community Technology Outreach Programs (CTOP), and Village Transformation Programs (VTP).
