SARATOK: Residents who live in low-lying areas and are at risk of being hit by flash floods have been reminded to be careful if there are prolonged rain and high tides.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said that it had been raining for the past few days with high tides in the afternoon.

“I understand that there are areas that are flooded. If the water rises suddenly, contact the rescue agencies for immediate assistance.

“At the same time, monitor your children’s activities. Don’t allow them to play in the water as they please,” he said.

Mohamad gave the advice after the Christmas food basket handover ceremony held in conjunction with the Charity Day and Blood Donation Campaign by Ji Yuan Shan She Saratok Charity and Moral Education Association here on Sunday.

He said he was always in close contact with all rescue agencies in order to know developments from time to time.

Mohamad added that residents must also be aware of any changes in their respective areas such as ground movements that could cause landslides.

“In addition, follow safety measures. Avoid touching electronic items during floods, evacuate immediately if instructed and always keep up with the latest situation.

“Preliminary preparation is very important to avoid a chaotic situation if something undesirable happens,” he said.
