KUCHING: The Borneo Highlands Resident Club (BHRC) is urging landowners who have not yet registered themselves under BHRC to do so urgently.
The chairman of BHRC, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, raised concerns about the inability to access the complete list of landowners, hindering the distribution of vital information.
“BHRC serves as the communication centre between the landowners and government agencies or departments. Unfortunately, we do not have the complete list and contact details to disseminate important information,” Lo stressed.
He made these remarks during the second annual general meeting (AGM) of the Borneo Highlands Resident Club (BHRC) held at Hoi Tin Lau Restaurant last night (Dec 20).
Club secretary Liew Nam Boon urged unregistered landowners to collaborate with the club for the benefit of the community.
“We want to appeal to them to cooperate with us for the benefit of the community,” Liew said.
“It’s not hard to join; they just need to write to us via email, and we will send them a soft copy of the form for them to submit,” Liew added.
Furthermore, Lo emphasized the significant and advantageous role of a registered resident.
“I think as residents of Borneo Highlands, it is our duty to do what is best for BHRC,” Lo said.
“Please spread the word to the lot owners who are not yet members about the benefits and privileges of being members of BHRC,” Lo urged.
BHRC’s objectives include safeguarding residents’ and property owners’ rights, ensuring security services, updating authorities on infrastructure improvements, generating income for club operations, and organizing cultural and recreational activities.
Additionally, about 30 people attended the AGM, including committee members, residents, and their spouses.
The meeting covered department reports, and committee elections for 2024-2025, and concluded with a fellowship dinner to mark the end of the year.
Being an officially registered club under the Registrar of Societies since 2022, Lo expressed gratitude to members, citing an eventful year filled with engagement with members and government agencies to fulfil BHRC’s constitutional objectives.
“This has been an eventful year. We engaged not only with our members but also with government agencies such as Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), and Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), to fulfil the objectives enshrined in the constitution of our club,” Lo stated.
