Bintulu marine police intelligence unit seizes 1,000 litres of diesel from a 4WD vehicle.

BINTULU: Marine police successfully foiled a bid to smuggle out 1,000 litres of diesel in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Kontraban’ here last Friday (Mar 5).

An intelligence unit halted a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle for inspection by the roadside of Jalan Sibiew near Taman Golden Villa intersection.

Bintulu marine police commanding officer Ezuandi Bahadin said the team found a plastic tank containing diesel on the back of the 4WD.

“Examinations found that the driver, 27, who is the owner of the goods, failed to produce any legal document to owning the diesel from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Bintulu.

“The team then arrested the driver and seized the diesel, vehicle and an electric pump as evidence,” he said, adding that the total seizure amounted to about RM92,650.

Ezuandi said the driver did not have a license or permission to own or carry out the transaction of the controlled goods.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supply Act 1961.
