Bintulu police probe GE15 poster torn-up case

KUCHING: Police have opened an investigation paper pertaining to a political party’s poster being torn up by an unidentified individual in Bintulu.

A police spokesman for the 15th general election (GE15) Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong in a statement, said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, was opened for committing mischief and causing loss or damage to another individual’s property.

This was after a report was brought to the attention of the police where a political party’s candidate poster had been torn by an unknown individual along Jalan Tun Hussein Onn.

He stated that this was one of four reports received by the police pertaining to election offences yesterday.

Among the reports include two local men being detained by villagers in Kampung Garung, Padawan as they were seen taking a political party’s flag to be made into a collection.

The incident which had gone viral on TikTok, saw the men apologising for their action and they returned the flag back to its original place.

As of Nov 17, Sarawak police have approved a total of 291 permits for political parties to hold their campaigns and political talks throughout the state.

All political parties contesting in GE15, are advised to remind their supporters to not commit any illegal acts in order to maintain the peace and harmony of the people in this state.
