MIRI: The Batu Niah Lion Club will host a blood donation drive in conjunction with the Breast Cancer and Liver Cancer Awareness Month on October 29.

It is scheduled from 8.30 am to 1 pm at the 1st Floor of Training Institute MRC Miri Chapter.

Batu Niah Lion Club president Andy Jong said that this event is a pivotal part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Their goal is to ensure that the Miri Hospital Blood Bank maintains an ample blood reserve.

“In addition to the blood donation, attendees can also benefit from a free blood glucose test and can pledge to be organ donors,” added Jong.

For those unaware, every October, the world celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Often referred to as “Pink October,” individuals wear pink and display pink ribbons. This gesture is a significant reminder of the essence of preventive measures and routine check-ups to detect breast cancer early on.

Moreover, October also marks the Liver Cancer Awareness Month. As Jong pointed out, “Nearly 300 million people globally are affected by hepatitis B, elevating their risk of liver cancer. It’s essential to raise awareness about this.”
