BINTANGOR: The body of a 20-year-old man, Jackson Janang, who was feared to have drowned after falling into Sungai Stubah, has been discovered afloat on Thursday (June 8).
Jackson, who had disabilities and suffered from seizures, was found around 1.05pm, approximately 500m downstream from where he fell into the river.
Bintangor fire station chief Nicholas Belulin confirmed that the body was retrieved by villagers and subsequently handed over to the police for transportation to the hospital.
“The search and rescue (SAR) operation was concluded at 2pm after the body was recovered.”
The search operation involved the participation of the Civil Defence Force (APM), the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB), the police, and local villagers.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (June 7) when Jackson, who was only wearing a pair of shorts, boarded a boat alone at the river to retrieve his catch from a fish trap located some 70m from the longhouse jetty.
It is believed that Jackson fell into the river and was swept away by the strong current.
