Bomba photo shows rescuers retrieving the victim’s body from the river at Kampung Rasan Tubau.

BINTULU: The body of a teenage boy reported missing after he fell into a river at Kampung Rasan Tubau on Wednesday, was found drowned today morning (Mar 2).

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim identified as Darrylsyivister Stella, 15, was retrieved by the Bintulu fire station’s diving unit around 11 am.

The team found and retrieved the victim from the water about eight feet deep.

His body was later handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for post-mortem.

Following that, the team ended the search operation at 11.30 am and departed back to their station.

On Wednesday, the boy was heading to the river to bathe with his friends near the village’s jetty around 5.40 pm.

It is said that the boy dived into the river to bathe but did not surface after that.

According to the victim’s family, the boy did not know how to swim and the estimated depth that he dived into was about 12 feet.

The family alerted the authorities around 6.20 pm for search assistance after their initial search effort failed.
