Bomba attended to 5,426 emergency cases in 2016

THE Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba) Sarawak attended to 5,426 emergency cases last year, of which 2,015 were fire cases, 3,201 rescue and humanitarian cases and 193 special tasks.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian said the department had successfully saved RM184.6 million worth of properties from fire.

Meanwhile, for the first quarter of this year, the department attended to 1,855 emergency cases, of which 380 fire cases, 1,181 rescue and humanitarian cases and 290 special tasks.

“From the fire cases, the department saved RM128 million worth of properties,” disclosed Dr Sim in his winding-up speech in the august House, yesterday.

Dr Sim said to create public awareness on fire safety, especially to longhouse and rural communities, the department had conducted 2,693 outreach programmes last year.

For the 1st quarter of 2017, the department had conducted 293 similiar programmes throughout the state.

In addition, the involvement of public in the Community Fire Programme (also known as ‘Bomba Komuniti’) is also encouraging.

As of April 2017, Dr Sim said a total of 333 Community Fire Teams with 3,310 members had been set up throughout the State.
