KAPIT: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) here rescued a toddler from a terrifying encounter of being trapped inside a car for 15 minutes yesterday (Mar 18).

The mother panicked when she realised that her one-year-old daughter was locked inside the car in front of Kapit Market here.
 
It is believed that the mother frantically tried to open the car door, but to no avail. She then contacted the Kapit fire station for rescue assistance around 1.15pm.
 
On arrival, the team immediately went to work to free the child from the confines of the car using special equipment.

It took them 15 minutes to finally open the door and free the toddler. The girl was then handed over to her relieved mother at 1.35pm.
 
Leaving a child unattended in a car is not only dangerous but can also be fatal, especially in hot weather.
 
In addition, it is also an offence under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Children Act 2001, and parents are liable for prosecution if found guilty.
 
According to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), parents who carelessly leave their children unattended in the car can face a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail sentence of up to 20 years.
