Bonsai plants thief, 35, caught

MIRI: A local man on Friday night was caught for stealing three Bonsai plants worth nearly RM200 in front of a premises selling motorcycle in Jalan Jee Foh, Krokop Utama here.

The Bonsai plants were planted by the premise’s owner years ago.

Thanks to the patrolling unit of Miri Resident Community (RC) that passed by the area, the culprit was caught and was later arrested by police after being alerted by the RC team.

During further investigation, the suspect, aged 35, admitted to having dug up the plants with his accomplice.

When the RC team made the ambush, the suspect’s accomplice managed to escape into a nearby bush.

Also seized were a Perodua Kancil car, a machete and an oil palm harvesting knife.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari when contacted confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

Several items found inside the vehicle believed used by the suspect in his activities.
