KUCHING: A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly carrying out an illegal sports betting activity in his home on Friday (Nov 6).

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan told the raid took place around 4.15pm at Jalan Kim Chu Shin, Batu Kawa by a Padawan CID team.

“The team raided the house and arrested the man who was allegedly involved in the sports betting activity.

“The team also seized three laptops, a smartphone and a paper with a list of website links and numbers,” he said.

Investigations found that the bets were made online using a number of website links. The bookie also used several bank accounts in the name of another person for payment transactions.

He noted that betting times were based on schedules that included international football matches such as the English Premier League.

It was understood that each bet was estimated to reach up to RM5,000.

Aidil said the suspect has a previous criminal record for intentionally causing injury using weapons or other dangerous objects and is now remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 6(3) of the Betting Act 1953, said Aidil.
