Borneo Innovation Festival 2022 gets overwhelming response

BETONG: The recently concluded Borneo Innovation Festival (BIF) 2022 has seen a total of 150 entries being received for seven categories that were contested.

The categories were namely Construction and Materials/Machines/Equipment, ICT and Multimedia, Electricity, Electronics and Telecommunications, Green Products/Agriculture/Environment/Renewable Energy, Teaching and Learning, Creative Design and Heritage as well as Food and Drinks.

The festival was organised by Politeknik METrO Betong Sarawak (PMBS) in collaboration with Polytechnic and Community College (Borneo Zone) and participation was opened to all TVET institutions such as Polytechnics, Community Colleges, Public Skills Training Institutes, Public and Private Higher Education Institutes, as well as schools.

“With the theme “Empower Your Creativity”, BIF 2022 has run smoothly and has received an overwhelming response from the participants,” said director of BIF 2022 programme, Emirudziawati Juni in a statement here yesterday.

She said it was hoped that this kind of innovation competition could be an inspiration for researchers to continue on producing innovative products that could be highlighted and commercialised to benefit all levels of society.

“Participants should register their innovations with Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) to protect their intellectual properties from being exploited without their consent,” she added.

A group from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan has won Best Pitching Award for their innovation entitled “Flux: A Modular 3D printed Furniture Joinery System, whereas Best Poster Award was won by Politeknik Mukah Sarawak for the innovation entitled “Real-Time Solar Efficiency Monitoring System”.

Meanwhile iCATS University College and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak through a collaboration had been named as the recipients for BIF 2022 Special Jury Award. All these winners were announced during the virtual BIF 2022 Closing Ceremony which was held last October 12.
