KOTA SAMARAHAN: Featuring national drifters as the judges, the upcoming Borneo Star Drift Battle will bring the motoring experience to town.

First-badge national drifters Mohd Zaiham Hamdan @ Bullzai, Jason Lim, Gui Foo Sing, and Fazreen Ismail have been invited to support as judges for the two-day event.

The action-packed event is organised by FL Motorsport (FLMS), and it is sanctioned by both the Sarawak Motorsports Association (SMA) and the Malaysian Motorsports Association (MAM).

Kicking off on March 4-5, the event will highlight car tandem drift, a judges’ battle, a drift clinic, and a lucky draw.

La Promenade Mall, Hock Seng Lee Berhad (HSL) as the venue sponsor noted that they were honoured to host the drifting competition since the pandemic.

“An amazing time for all is to be featured,” it said.

Its organising chairman, Andy Chong, said as of yesterday, there were about 25 to 30 drivers who had registered to join the drifting competition.

“We are still waiting for more drivers to join, especially those from Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.

“The last registration would be on Feb 27. We are hoping that more could come and have fun in the two-day event,” Andy said.

For novice category, the registration fee is RM300 while the Pro-Am is RM500.

The event, which is supported by Petra Jaya Motorsports Club (PJM) and Sarawak Motorsport Festivals (SMF), is hoped to bring awareness for drift-racing motorsport activities among Sarawakians by active participation in competitions held state-wide.

It is also for Sarawakians to experience by completing a motor-drifting course or by performing the quality of races from point-to-point with judges while participating in competitive motorsports activities at a safe and authorised place.

As such, it is sought that more opportunities for drift racing motorsports will be hosted, improving Sarawak’s automotive sector’s visibility and credibility.
