Borneo Ultra Trail Run and Sukan Rakyat to introduce Mambong as premier eco-tourism destination

KUCHING: An extraordinary event is set to unfold on Oct 29, in the scenic N.19 Mambong area, Padawan District. 

Deputy Minister for Transport (Road and Aviation), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the Borneo Ultra Trail Run and Sukan Rakyat 2023 promise a dynamic blend of eco-tourism, healthy activities and community unity.

“The primary aim of this programme is to introduce Mambong as a premier eco-tourism destination in Sarawak,” he told the media here on Tuesday (Oct 17).

To date, 190 participant had registered, and this event had received participation from countries such as Brunei, Indonesia,Singapore, the Philippines, Netherlands, Germany and Nigeria. 

“The Borneo Ultra Trail Run, a marquee event, will lead participants through a breathtaking journey across five picturesque villages: Annah Rais, Sadir, Sibuang, Sibakar and Simuti.

“Along the way, runners will traverse iconic landmarks such as the Annah Rais longhouse, Annah Rais hotspring, and mesmerising waterfalls in Sadir and Sibakar.”

In addition to promoting eco-tourism, the programme will provide a platform for promoting community wellbeing.

The Sukan Rakyat segment involves the active participation of 10 villages under the auspices of the Bi-Annah Association. 

“This event not only encourages local involvement but also welcomes participants from both the local and international communities to join the Borneo Ultra Trail Run, promoting a spirit of unity and inclusiveness.

“One of the key goals is to establish close cooperation and unity among individuals from diverse backgrounds while organising this remarkable social programme.”

Dr Jerip said this kind of initiative seeks to bring people together, transcending barriers and fostering a sense of togetherness.

“It’s an opportunity to experience the beauty of Sarawak, engage in healthy activities, and celebrate the strength of community bonds.”
