Bowling tourney to kick off Gawai Dayak celebration

MIRI: In conjunction with 2023 Miri Division Gawai Dayak celebration, the Gawai Dayak Celebration Committee of Miri Division kicked off its first activities this year with Miri Gawai Dayak Inter- Associations Bowling Tournament 2023.

The event was declared open by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development I Dr Ripin Lamat who is also Lambir assemblyman. There were 17 teams participating in the tournament at the Megalanes Bintang Megamall. 

Sub Committee Chairman for the Bowling Tournament, Lawrence Sinel said in his welcoming speech that this was the first time Bowling Tournament being introduced as part of the activity.

“This nature of sport activity is really good as it allows us to foster a good platform for fellowship and foster better teamwork among the 12 associations that participated in the committee,” he said.

The tournament was won by Sarawak Dayak Educator Association (SDEA) Miri Zone with 1, 266 pin falls and won themselves cash prize of RM500, medals and trophy.

DBNA Miri Team Bravo came as 1st runner-up with 1,260 Pin falls and won themselves cash prize of RM300, trophy and medals while Dayak Association Miri (DAM) Team A came in third with 1238 pin falls and won themselves RM200 cash prize, trophy and medals.

Highest Pin Falls Award goes to Leo Bundan Mathew Sintan with 385 pin falls for three Games, thus winning himself cash prize of RM200 and a trophy.

As for Sweeper Award, it was won by Agnes Esther Mula with 108 pin falls for three games winning a hamper. 

Dr Ripin in his opening remarks advised the committee to continue more of sports activities for future activities of Gawai.

To support the event, he has pledged RM5,000 from his minor rural project (MRP) to the Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebration Committee.
