BINTANGOR: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol has expressed his disappointment over the delay in the construction of the Batang Paloh Bridge project.

He thus hoped that the contractors and implementing agencies could work with full commitment to ensure the completion of the bridge project.

“The Public Works Department (PWD) has also informed that the Batang Paloh Bridge construction project is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025,” he said.

He said this after the ‘Jerayawara Bubur Lambuk’ programme jointly organised by Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) Semop branch and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Semop branch at the Batang Paloh Ferry Terminal here recently.

Abdullah, who is also the Semop assemblyman, said with the Hari Raya celebration approaching, traffic congestion was expected at the Batang Paloh and Muara Lassa Ferry Terminals.

“Therefore, PWD has agreed to provide three ferries during the day and two ferries at night, depending on weather conditions and river currents,” he said.

On another note, he said the Semop Constituency Service Centre would host open house events during the Hari Raya at six locations.

The locations include Kampung Tekajong for seven villages in the northern zone of Pulau Bruit; Kampung Saai for six villages in the southern zone of Pulau Bruit; Paloh; Tanjung Bundung; Serdeng; and Kampung Melayu Bintangor.

Earlier, about 300 packets of ‘bubur lambuk’ (savoury porridge) were distributed to the public passing through the ferry terminal.

The ‘bubur lambuk’ was prepared by 30 volunteers consisting of Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) members, PBB Squad Sayang, PBB Youth, and SABERKAS Semop branch youth.
