Brothers arrested for theft of supermarket beer

MIRI: Two brothers were arrested by the police on suspicion of involvement in stealing beer from a supermarket last Monday (Aug 2).

The men aged 34 and 44 were arrested in a house at Jalan Airport around 12.30pm today (Aug 6).

Background checks revealed that the suspects are wanted individuals as one of them had a past record under Section 408 of the Penal Code and the other under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

On Thursday (Aug 5), a supermarket employee noticed that the beer stock had decreased and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed an unidentified man taking a huge amount without paying on Aug 2.

It is understood that the theft resulted in a loss of about RM650 to the supermarket.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, who confirmed the case, said both suspects had been taken to Miri Central Police Station for further probe.

Apart from that, the clothes used by the suspects were also seized as evidence.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for stealing.
