SIBU: The Surau Pusat Islam University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) distributed bubur lambuk to the public in front of Surau Darul Islam Sibu, Jalan Bandong, yesterday (March 30) in its effort to enliven the month of Ramadan.

UTS vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the programme has been an annual activity of Surau Pusat Islam UTS.

However, he said this time around the distribution is more meaningful as it was organised in conjunction with UTS’s 10th anniversary celebration.

“Today, we prepare 500 packs of bubur lambuk and distributed them to the public along Jalan Bandong. While another 300 packs of Bubur Lambuk will be distributed tonight at Surau Pusat Islam UTS,” he said when met by reporters after the programme.

Khairuddin also said the bubur lambuk was packed by Persatuan Mahasiswa Islam UTS (PERMAI) at the campus.

Hence, he expressed his gratitude to all parties who helped them in making the programme a success and hoped the programme could instil a spirit of giving among UTS students and staff.

“We would like to maintain it as our annual event. Hopefully, we can do more in the upcoming year and get our students to be involved in such a programme with the community.

“There is a unique thing about bubur lambuk, it only can be easily found during the month of Ramadan,” he said.

Khairuddin was accompanied by his wife, Datin Dayang Mariani Abang Zain and UTS staff during the programme.
