SIBU: An agreement for the extension work to the United Chinese Association (UCA) Sibu Division building has been inked here.

It was signed between UCA Sibu president Ngieng Ping Sing and WKH Construction company director Wong Kie Hung yesterday.

The ceremony was witnessed by UCA Sibu honorary advisor Dato Vincent Lau and Lanang MP Alice Lau, among others.

Ngieng said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg would be invited for the earth-breaking ceremony of the RM1.7 million project in Jalan Alan next month.

“The project is expected to be completed within a year.”

He thanked Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh for his assistance in facilitating the RM1 million state government allocation for the purpose.

“Of course, the funds required for the expansion are far more than this figure.

“In addition, the amount we have raised from the community is still not enough. Therefore, we will seek more funding from the government.

“This is an important plan for the long-term development of the Sibu Chinese community and society. I believe that all those who care about and are interested in the development of the Chinese community will be able to do so with the money and efforts,” Ngieng said.

He said UCA would continue to give the government a strong support in the revitalisation of the Sibu Chinese community and the promotion of social construction.

At the same time, he said UCA hoped that the government would backing them and make joint efforts to benefit the people.

He said the UCA Sibu building, which was built in 2002, had became an iconic building of the Sibu Chinese community.

“The UCA Sibu premises needed to be expanded further after 17 years to serve them better and efficiently,” Ngieng added.
