KUCHING: Sri Aman Member of Parliament has expressed her full support on revamping the Sarawak civil service recruitment system that is gaining support from various stakeholders.

Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie agreed with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi ‘s statement yesterday on revamping of the recruitment system for meritocracy and representation of Dayak and Chinese in the civil service which is crucial, given the multi-ethnic nature of the state.

“The current recruitment system needs to be revamped to enable the aspirations of the Premier for a top-notch civil service.

“The new system should be impartial, transparent, and inclusive from the initial stage till recruitment is done.

“The discontentment with the current system has been simmering for a while, but the Premier’s efforts for a racially balanced civil service have consoled many,” she said in a statement yesterday.

The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) women chief added that the next seven years leading up to 2030, when Sarawak is expected to be one of the most developed regions in Malaysia, required political will, support, and sincerity from everyone to achieve this goal.

“The revamp of the Sarawak civil service recruitment system is a step in the right direction, towards a fair and inclusive civil service that truly represents the people it serves,” she said.

Sarawak, she added, is a multi-ethnic state hence it was crucial to ensure that fair representation was reflected where it deserved and calling to revamp the system was the way forward for the Sarawak civil service.
