SIBU: Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a youth organisation that provides opportunities to empower young people to drive change, says Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.

“We (JCI) had trained many youths to become leaders of the world. I am also a JCI member. I benefitted a lot from this wonderful organisation such as project planning, meeting procedures, community service, entrepreneurship skills, and more.”

He said this in his speech read by Cr Raymond Tiong during the 66th Installation cum Awards Luncheon of JCI Sibu here on Monday (Jan 2).

Chieng noted that recruitment and retention were two major ingredients for the sustainability of an organisation.

“As we can see that most of the youth is pinned to his or her cell phone, they are so addicted they usually don’t come out of their room and seldom communicate with people.

“This is a challenge for us nowadays. Therefore, I urge JCI Sibu to assist in helping our youth as they are our future leaders.”

Chieng pointed out that the Leadership Academy organised last year should be continued in order to provide an excellent channel for students in Sibu to get trained as our future leaders.

“As one of the active youth voluntary organisations in Sibu, I believe that under the leadership of newly appointed president Samuel Ngu, you will continue to excel in your organised activities and functions with your presidential theme, BLESS.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the outgoing JCI Sibu president for 2022, Christine Pet, and her Board of Directors for an outstanding year and JCI Sibu president for 2023, Samuel Ngu for taking up the challenge to lead the local chapter.

“I would also like to wish all the JCI members a fruitful and memorable event, and continued success in your future endeavors.”
