Buragas Jin players celebrate after winning the title on Sunday.

SPAOH: Buragas Jin emerged as champions of the 5th Futsal Open Championship 2019 for the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas Cup. They beat Projek NS from Sarikei in a penalty shootout after both teams tied 1-1 in the final at Spaoh Pekan Futsal Court, here. With the title, Buragas Jin took home a cash prize of RM5,000, a trophy and medals while Projek NS won a cash prize of RM2,500, a trophy and medals.

Meanwhile, Jang BS C team and E.F.T Kabong were joint third after losing in the semi-finals to receive RM1,000 cash and a trophy each. In the women’s category, Tidal Bore from Kuching defeated the MZ Legasi team from Sibu 3-0. With the title, the Tidal Bore took home a cash prize of RM2,000, a trophy and a medal while MZ Legasi team received a cash prize of RM1,000 and a medal. Meanwhile, Neo FT from Betong and Melda FC from Samarahan finished joint third to get RM500 cash prize and a trophy each.

The best player in the men’s final went to Projek NS player Muhammad Dzul Ikram Rajali while Ashikin Mohamad Anuar of Tidal Bore was named the best player in the women’s final. The best goalkeeper was also from Buragas Jin, Muhammad Hazim for the men’s category and Charity Kemp of Tidal Bore in the women’s event. In the under-19 competition, Jang BS’s Mohd Imran Muryady and Nurfakhriah Mahmud of the MZ Legasi team were named the best player for the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Jang BS from Spaoh and MZ Legasi from Sibu were named the best men’s and women’s teams respectively. A total of 33 men’s and seven women’s teams took part in the competition. Betong District Officer Sofhi Jebal who represented Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas gave away the prizes.
