LUNDU: Buraq Terbang 1 was crowned the King of Batang Kayan in the Batang Kayan Regatta Lundu Festival 2022.
Bujang Sigat finished second and Bistari third in the race.
The prize-giving ceremony marked the closing ceremony of the three day festival which started on Sept 23 at the Lundu Waterfront.
“We know that boat racing has indeed been a tradition for the people of Sarawak since hundreds of years ago,” said Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
“It has been made into a large-scale festival and included in the tourism calendar in the state because it can attract the interest of various races in Sarawak.
“With the overwhelming response from the people coming here, it shows that the festival is indeed a success,” he said after the closing ceremony on Sunday (Sept 25).
During the same ceremony, Opar Assemblyman Billy Sujang stated that the organisation of the festival after the pandemic was blessing for the people.
“I understand the difficulties faced by the people during the pandemic. Therefore, the organisation of the programme such as this can open up space and opportunities for traders to resume their business activities.
“At the same time, we can also boost tourism activities for the Lundu and Sematan districts. This is because Lundu is one of the high tourism assets in Sarawak,” he said.
He called for such programmes to continue to be implemented in the future as it helps the local people generate income.
For this festival alone, he said, it managed to attract at least 10,000 visitors daily since its first day with various activities organised.
