SIBU: A businessman was cheated of RM136,000 in a road construction project in Sabah which was non-existent.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit revealed that the case happened in November 2017. The 31-year-old victim only lodged the report on Oct 2, 2019 after failing to receive the promised profit from the purported project. He added that on Nov 7, 2017, the victim was at a coffee shop when a friend (the suspect) showed up.

“The suspect later invited the victim to participate in a road construction project in Sabah on a profit-sharing basis,” he said.

The victim was subsequently asked to come up with the capital for the project.

ACP Stanley also said that the victim had made four transactions to an account between Nov  9, 2017 to Aug 1, 2018 as he was interested in the offer.

“When the victim asked the suspect about the profit, he gave various excuses. He later checked with the legitimate project contractor and was told that the suspect was not involved in the project,” he added.
