MIRI: The Ministry of Youth and Sports Sarawak (MYSS) held a five-in-one event at the Miri Marriott Hotel Resort & Spa here on Monday (Dec 21).

The five ceremonies were the launch of MYSS Protection Safety as well as Occupational Health and Fire Safety Manual; the launch of MYSS Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP); the handing over of sports facilities to Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC); MYSS 2019 Excellent Service Award (APC); and appreciation ceremony for retiring civil servants.

During his speech, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah reminded the ministry’s staff members to equip themselves with skills in information technology (IT) in delivering their service.

“As a civil servant, you need to know the limits in communication interaction and comply with the etiquettes in using social media,” he said when officiating at the event.

He also advised them to nurture integrity in delivering their service and not be corrupt and abuse power.

“Civil servants are the backbone of the government and responsible for executing government services, so they must be honest and have integrity.

“Being corrupt will not only destroy an individual but also jeopardise the safety and wellbeing of the organisation he represents especially the state of Sarawak,” he said.

He mentioned that sports facilities under the ministry including the ministry’s 168 staff members under the state’s Civic Centre and Youth Camp were handed over to SSC on Nov 1.

He also congratulated 39 recipients at the APC ceremony. They are those from the headquarters, divisional offices, state civic centres and youth camps.

Also present at the functions were the minister’s wife Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan; Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting; and the MYSS permanent secretary Nancy Jolhi.
