KUCHING: Only four outlets selling chicken here have been given the halal certification by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC).

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi there are 80 chicken processing outlets in Sarawak, however only four have received halal certification from Jakim and SIC.

“The four outlets are Choice Ria Supermarket in Semariang, Choice Ria Supermarket in Jalan Astana, Choice Ria Supermarket in Jalan Ajibah Abol and an CCK Market Sales in Jalan Matang,” he said.

Abdul Rahman added that many more outlets have applied to be halal certified. However, the majority do not comply with the necessary guidelines set by Jakim and SIC.

He urged more outlets to comply with the guidelines.

He was speaking to reporters at the K&L Farming Industries factory in Jalan Penrissen today (Jan 16).

“K&L Farming Industries Factory processes 15,000 chickens a day, and they are freshly produced from their respective farms located in Jalan Kuching-Serian, Jalan Landeh and Jalan Matang.

“The chickens are then sent here (K&L factory) to be butchered, processed and are sent to the different locations in Kuching, Sibu and Miri,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman also pointed out that the 30-year-old factory will get a new building next year.

“K&L Farming Industries factory will have a new building next year, which is next to the current one where a new technology from Denmark will be introduced,” he added.

He hoped the new technology will ensure more halal certified factories are made available across the region.
