KUCHING: Students who have visited China over the past two weeks are urged to undergo self-quarantine at home for 14 days.

Sarawak Education Department director Dr Azhar Ahmad said all school authorities have to determine if students had visited China during the period.

“During the isolation period, students can still continue their studies via Whatsapp or Telegram with the class or school,” he said in a statement.

Another guideline is for school authorities to conduct temperature screening at school entrances.

“Schools should also remind students or staff members who have symptoms such as fever, cough, or flu to seek immediate medical attention at the hospital or nearest clinic,” said Azhar.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) views the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak as highly serious, releasing such guidelines for all district education officers regarding its risk management.

In an earlier circular released on January 15 by MoE’s School Management Unit, which is to be read along with the statement, further instructions were disseminated.
