KUCHING: The Colorectal Cancer Awareness Programme held at Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani Welfare Centre was well-received by the public.
The programme was organised by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UNIMAS and Sri Satok Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE).
“This programme is aimed to provide awareness of what colorectal cancer is and how to detect the cancer at an early stage.
“Understanding and recognising the early signs of colorectal cancer will help people protect themselves from becoming victims,” said Professor Dr Razitasham Safii from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) during programme yesterday.
This was the first programme held by UNIMAS together with PAWE Sri Satok and the community.
“The programme also makes PAWE an information delivery agent to the community,” she said.
Other than the health talk, the programme also provides health screening services.
There were 46 elderly and youth visitors who had their health screened during the programme.
“We provide this health screening service for the elderly because we are aware that due to COVID-19, there are constraints and problems for the elderly to go to a hospital or clinic,” Dr Razitasham explained.
