SIBU: The five-day Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) carnival being organised by Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Rosli Dhoby here beginning today will provide students with a greater understanding of the significance of STEM education.
Kapitan Ling Hua Wee, who represented Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Michael Tiang Ming Tee, officiated at the opening ceremony.
The event offered a wide range of engaging activities and programmes for the students, such as RoboCup, Quiz Competition, 3D pen and Eiffel Tower challenge.
The organisers said the carnival is aimed at introducing students to STEM education and promoting project based learning in STEM.
“It also emphasises the practical application of STEM knowledge in daily life through various activities.
“The event is also aimed at nurturing students’ creativity by encouraging the application of STEM knowledge in different activities and competitions, fostering innovative and creative thinking among the participants,” a spokesman said in a press statement.
The carnival also aims to enhance the students’ competitiveness in science and technology while emphasising the importance of the 4C components: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, he added.
Among those present were school principal Tan Kok Aun, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) senior lecturer Ong Sing Ling, and SMK Rosli Dhoby Parent Teacher Association (PIBG) chairman Christcharlynn Anthony Players.
