KOTA SAMARAHAN: It was a costly intrusion for a carpenter when he was compounded for trespassing into Kampung Tanjung Bundong, an area placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on Thursday.

The incident happened at 4.35pm when a team manning a roadblock at the village’s civic centre, spotted the 22-year-old man sneaking into the area on his motorcycle.

District police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said the team managed to arrest the man for inspections.

“Further checks found that the man did not possess any illegal object and his reason for entering the area was to visit his friend.

“As a result, the man committed an offence under Regulation 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for entering an EMCO area without any reasonable excuse,” he explained.

He also advised residents whose housing area have been declared as an EMCO area, to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been outlined and always be in their respective homes.

Permission will be given for them to leave the house compound if there are any emergencies or instructed by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to undergo swab test only.

Sudirman stated that the police would not hesitate to penalise those who fail to comply with the SOPs.
