KUCHING: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) wants the local business community to be aware of and benefit from the Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB) Act 2001.

The chamber will hold a meeting via Zoom on Apr 27 to highlight the issue.

The Small and Medium Enterprises & Human Resource Development Committee of ACCCIS hopes the business community will benefit from the virtual briefing.

The Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB) or also known as the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) is broadening its access by expanding the coverage of the PSMB Act 2001 effective 1 March 2021.

Employers of the new sectors are given an exemption of HRD levy for three months under the PSMB Act 2001, that is, from 1 March to 31 May 2021.

The registration of HRDF employers under the new industries takes effect from 1 March 2021.

“The Zoom meeting aims to brief them on the implementation of PSMB Act 2001.

“After the expansion, all industries are now covered under PSMB except for government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved in social welfare activities,” it said.

According to ACCCIS, the ongoing registration of employers covered under the new legislation has been extended till Apr 30.

“Employers who fail to register after the deadline will be fined not exceeding RM10,000 or subject to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both (on conviction),” it added.

It said the virtual meeting from 2.30pm to 3.30pm on Tuesday will be moderated by Tan Say Pooi, head of the National Human Resource Centre of PSMB.

The meeting will be conducted in Mandarin and members or non-members who are interested in joining may contact ACCCIS Secretariat at Tel: 082-428815 or Email: acccis11@gmail.com for reservation.
