KOTA SAMARAHAN: Christians can now pray at the newly built Sacred Heart Chapel located inside Sarawak Heart Centre here.

Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) chairman Archbishop Simon Poh said the chapel was the first of its kind in Sarawak’s medical institution.

“This is a symbol of our desire to work together as unity is important, as well as mutual respect and acceptance of each other.”

He added that the chapel would be a place for the faithful to come and pray, especially for those who are sick, and to find spiritual support.

“It is indeed a blessing for everyone and for myself. I am proud to be a Sarawakian where we can respect and work together for the benefit of everyone.

“And I pray this chapel will be a model so that we can help all other hospitals to have a place for prayer. Healing just not physical but also spiritual,” he said when met by the media after the launching of the chapel today.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Heart Centre director Dr Mohd Asri Riffin said its Christian staff and patients could utilise the facility for prayers and other religious activities.

“We are lucky to have a chapel here that can create harmony and respect among us, because we believe every religion teaches us to respect and love everyone.

“Although we are still experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic, we managed to built the chapel in eight months.”

The chapel was built on April 15, 2021 and was completed on Dec 15, 2021 at a cost of around RM400,000.
