DAPSY ROAD SIGNAGE

KUCHING: Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) has been criticised for using the issue of road signs to gain political mileage.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said putting up Chinese characters on road signs in the city for political mileage was a stupid act.

“Leave the road signs alone and stop playing politics with racial tones. I am most unhappy with DAP tactics of vandalising the road signs in Kuching city,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He said the issue had sparked off a lot of unnecessary debates with racial undertones in social media which was so un-Sarawak.

“We don’t need such political game here so DAP, a Malayan party can do what they want in Malaya instead of bringing in such toxic tactics to Sarawak,” he said.

He asked DAP where in Malaysia could they find Chinese characters in government buildings or road signs.

“We are a multi-racial state and we have a great example to show to the rest of Malaysia and even the world of our unique harmony. So why spoil it?

“For decades, we have live together as a family and we should not let a few road signs to mar that harmony,” he said.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman reminded that DAP should not forget that Sarawak comprised of many other races such as Chinese, Malays, Dayak, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu and many more.

“Let us be thankful and appreciate what we are enjoying. Let us remind ourselves not to take the peace and harmony in Sarawak for granted.

“So, DAP, don’t try to be clever and take things into your own hands. Don’t bring this kind of political culture into harmonious Sarawak,” he said.
