BINTULU: Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu yesterday said there had been no increase in the price of chicken in this region.

When interviewed yesterday, he said the supply of chicken remained stable.

“No traders, especially chicken farmers, are taking advantage, and they are selling chicken at regular price.

“Furthermore, we have not received any complaints following the implementation of the ceiling price of chicken since yesterday… So, I hope this situation continues,” he said after inspecting chicken, fish and rice prices at a supermarket here yesterday.

Mohamad also revealed that imported rice was now being sold at a lower price.

He said that with the subsidy allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last month, imported rice for Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan was now selling at around RM30 to RM31 per 10kg bag.

“I went to places where rice was sold at lower price except for brands like Basmati and so on.

Therefore, the B40 group can enjoy much cheaper rice than before,” he said.

Similarly, he said that fish prices in Bintulu were stable, with local market selling fish at prices which were lower than supermarket prices.
