SARIKEI: A chicken trader had an early morning greeting by a three-metre-long reticulated python while opening her business at a wet market, Jalan Nyelong here yesterday.
The presence of the reptile was noticed by the complainant around 7.50 am after she noticed a long, blackish creature circling inside the cage of her livestock.
A three-member team from Sarikei fire station was deployed to the scene after being alerted on the incident.
Upon arrival, the team found that the python was inside the cage after it had swallowed a chicken, based on its bulging belly.
It only took several minutes for the team to capture the reptile with a snake catching equipment.
The snake was later released to its original habitat away from the market and residential areas.
